Honey

about

When you call someone "Honey", I like to think you are describing them as sweet, but also infinitely shelf-stable, since honey never goes bad. In fact, edible honey was found in the tomb of King Tut from 1323 BCE. "Honey" is a song for when love feels like a discovery as magical as being the first person in millenia to enter the burial chamber of a long-dead pharaoh. When you're in the elevator up to your somebody's apartment for the first time, with the funny feeling that you might be at the beginning of a long, beautiful story. Savoring those early moments, etching them into your mind like hieroglyphs.

It was a pleasure to play this one with Jacob Sharp, of the band Mipso, and my producer and friend Jacob Blumberg. Jacob Blumberg and I were near the end of our road trip from New York to LA, so this is near the end of the tracklist of "Stranger to the Feeling", the album we recorded on that trip. It felt triumphant to cross the state line into California and to meet up with our pal at a rental house in Joshua Tree. We recorded this song in the afternoon, and a second one that evening after dinner. Jacob Sharp brings such a tenderness to this song and Jacob Blumberg plays such a killer, understated bass solo. I want to hear as many voices on this chorus as possible, so please learn Jacob's harmony and I'll see you at a show!
